Basil's benefits include reducing inflammation, and it is said to have anti-aging and antibacterial properties. The leaves are used fresh or dried to flavour meats, fish, salads, and sauces; basil tea is a stimulant. When cooking it should be added at the end of cooking. Heat removes the flavour and if cooked for too long can result in bitterness.
